Volunteering at Kigoma Orphanage Centre

Welcome to our volunteer program at the Kigoma Orphanage Centre, managed by The Shadow for the Youngsters Foundation, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and youth in Tanzania. Our volunteer program is designed primarily for individuals from Europe who want to actively support the children living at the orphanage by assisting with their educational and recreational activities.

Our last volunteer

Commitment and Schedule

• Minimum commitment: 5 days per week
• Daily working hours: Between 4 and 6 hours per day, flexible to meet the needs of the centre
• Duration: Minimum one week (longer stays encouraged)

Volunteer Activities

Volunteers will focus exclusively on supporting the children and youth through:

• Assisting with after-school activities, helping children with their homework and study routines
• Facilitating recreational and play activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development
• Providing mentorship and encouragement to foster a safe, positive, and stimulating environment
• Building trusting relationships with the children to support their wellbeing and growth

 

 

Requirements

• Good command of English is essential to communicate effectively with both staff and children
• Compassion, patience, and a genuine interest in working with vulnerable children
• Previous experience in education, childcare, or volunteering is beneficial but not mandatory

Financial Contribution

Volunteers contribute a fee of €30 per day, which supports:

• The daily operational costs of the orphanage
• The purchase of nutritious food and educational materials for the children

Your contribution directly sustains the care and development of the children under our protection.
